US Events



After the British revealed the telegram to the United States, President Wilson released the telegram as a way of building support for the U.S. entering the war. Wilson called for for the arming of U.S. merchant ships delivering munitions to combatant Britain. Then submarines sank seven U.S. merchant ships and the Zimmerman telegram was published. Wilson called for war on Germany. The United States congress then declared on April 6, 1917.
